The 4th of July is frequently celebrated with outdoor barbecues, beach visits, and a day off from work. However, the summer holiday is mostly known for setting off explosives known as fireworks. But, why?

The history of fireworks celebrating America’s independence from British rule dates back to the Revolutionary War, hence the national anthem lyrics: “And the rockets red glare, the bombs bursting in air.”
