Gay-Shamed While Running For President?

Spread The Love

Is GOP presidential candidate Tim Scott being gay-shamed?

Politics :
Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina is the only Black Republican in the US Senate. He’s the only Black person running for the Republican nomination for president. He’s also widely rumored to be gay.

Gay-Shamed

Granted, Sen. Scott’s sexuality shouldn’t be an issue or even a topic up for discussion in 2023. However, because he publicly pledged to remain a virgin until marriage — and because he is Black, unmarried at 57, and running to become the leader of the white supremacist/racist/MAGA gang in American politics, it’s not a shocker that members of his own party have gay-shamed him.

Tim Scott first introduced himself to the American public on a political platform of morality. He opposed abortion, opposed pre-marital sex, and quickly became the GOP’s Black poster boy for all things Christian and good.

Republican party leaders loved him. He was just the right shade of Black the GOP could use to prove they were welcoming and not at all racist. He was easygoing and didn’t rock the boat. And, he was always quick to provide cover and defend his colleagues whenever they said or did something to expose their white privilege.

Now he’s running for president and being caught in all sorts of misleading explanations and supposed untruths. Suddenly, he’s not a Republican Party favorite anymore — and here’s why.

For many Republicans across middle America, a 57-year-old Black and never-married bachelor is a hard pill to swallow. Claims of a sex-free life of virginity are also tough for some to buy. However, instead of leaning into the public persona he created in order to be accepted by Republicans, the senator recently began running away from the self-invented image.

Gay-Shamed

In an attempt to squash rumors about his sexuality, Sen. Scott volunteered to reporters that he lost his virginity at some point between the ages of 30 and 46. He then shocked everyone by claiming he currently has a girlfriend.

Sen. Scott has never been seen with a woman at any point during his entire political career. So, it’s not a surprise that Republicans expressed open skepticism over claims that Scott is no longer a virgin and is actively dating a woman. In short, his story appears to be unraveling.

According to a new report from the Washington Post, Sen. Scott’s romantic claims “aren’t a scandal so much as they are a mystery” — and a possible liability in the GOP primary where Evangelical voters in Iowa, who value marriage and children, have a lot of sway. Reporter Ben Terris added that he’s been unable to confirm any evidence of a girlfriend or that Scott was once previously engaged, as he said on CNN in 2017.

WaPo also revealed that Jennifer DeCasper, Scott’s close friend and campaign manager, said in 2022 that the Senator’s dating life was “nonexistent.” This is in contrast with Scott’s story of having a girlfriend.

After some journalistic investigation, Terris said he “technically…can’t verify that she exists.” He added that the Scott campaign declined to share her name or make her available for an interview. However, he did discover that 6 of Scott’s closest friends said they didn’t know anything about him having a girlfriend.

When asked why no one had ever seen or heard of him dating a woman until now, Scott said the relationship was still relatively new and that he wanted to protect her privacy in case it didn’t work out.

“I have been very protective of my family and my loved ones,” Scott said. “I signed up for this. If we make it, she will be signing up for it as well, but at least then she’ll know what she’s getting into. But until then, the only conversation I’m going to have about her in any form or fashion is right now.”

Scott explained that a church friend set them up and that they’ve gone on dinner dates in Charleston, played pickleball, and used “a phone app to do a Bible study together.” He added, “I can’t imagine dragging her onto the campaign trail unless I have the intention of marrying her. I hope that happens, to be honest with you.”

Gay-Shamed

As expected, Republicans weren’t buying the “girlfriend story” or news that he somehow lost his virginity after pledging to hold it until marriage. So, in an effort to downplay being gay-shamed, Scott shifted gears and argued that the whispers were not about sexuality but about race.

Being gay-shamed is “a sneaky way to say that, ‘That guy isn’t one of us,’” Scott claimed. “It’s like a different form of discrimination or bias,” he continued. “You can’t say I’m Black, because that would be terrible, so find something else that you can attack.”

Hmmm…

If Tim Scott is gay, that’s his own business. Whether he wants to publicly admit it or not is his own decision. However, when he shows the American public one persona then attempts to flip it and appear as someone totally different solely because he’s running for president, that’s our business.

Perhaps Sen. Scott would be smart to skip the stories about his virginity and girlfriend, and simply live his life the way he’s always done: in private.

Po’ fella. I think it’s too late for that. Once your enemies (white racists and other assorted haters) smell blood they attack harder!

But he did it to himself a long time ago when he hitched his wagon to the Republican party so enjoy the run Sen. Scott! 🙂

He is trying way too hard. Making up a girlfriend and telling everybody he lost his virginity is too much. He is all over the place with his stories. Sometimes the best thing is to be quiet.

Mr.BD

I get he wants to have the first lady and all that so he can fit in with Repubs. But he should have thought about all that before he got in the race. They were calling Cory Booker gay too. But before he ran for president he had a relationship with the actress Rosario Dawson set up. They broke up right after he lost and it was probably fake. But at least he fixed all that beforehand.

To be honest it is not going to matter if he is gay or whatever. Tim Scott does not fit in with the Repubs. He is too old school. Mega runs Repubs now and they are not interested in some black man who is probably gay. He is either in the wrong party or era.
